About
About Shockwave Therapy Harley Street
An independent guide to one treatment in one district, owned by the UNTIL group, with no clinic on the street and no practitioner on the masthead.
Why a whole site about one treatment in one district
Almost everything written about shockwave therapy is published by somebody who would like to deliver it to you, and almost everything written about Harley Street is published by somebody who has an address on it. Neither is dishonest, and both leave the same gap. The questions a prospective patient most needs answered are the ones least useful to a clinic: whether the evidence actually supports the treatment for their problem, whether they have reached the point in the story at which it applies, and what a prestigious address does and does not guarantee about the person delivering it. This site answers those, in that order, and then stops.
What the evidence says, stated as it is
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has assessed extracorporeal shockwave therapy for four musculoskeletal conditions: refractory plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, refractory tennis elbow and refractory greater trochanteric pain syndrome. On every occasion it concluded that the safety evidence raises no major concerns and that the efficacy evidence is inconsistent, and required that the procedure be used only with special arrangements for clinical governance, consent and audit. Reviewing the Achilles guidance in 2016 it also stated that the mechanism by which the therapy might affect a tendinopathy is not known. Repeating that here is not scepticism about the treatment. It is the same information the guidance obliges a clinician to give you in writing, which is a great deal easier to weigh before an appointment than during one.
Who is behind this site
Shockwave Therapy Harley Street is owned and operated by the UNTIL group, which runs four private health and fitness clubs across central London and works with independent practitioners who hold clinic within them. That commercial relationship is the reason the site exists, which is exactly why the disclosure appears in the footer of every page rather than being buried in this paragraph. Where the treatment genuinely suits you, an enquiry is directed to UNTIL Health Concierge, who arrange an assessment with a registered clinician. Nobody associated with this site treats anybody, and no per-enquiry payment sits behind the introduction.
What this site will not do
It will not quote a price for a treatment it does not deliver, and it will not name a device manufacturer, because a site that has never operated a machine has no business endorsing one. It will not publish before-and-after imagery or outcome figures, since it has treated nobody and borrowing somebody else's result would misrepresent what your own tendon is likely to do. It will not claim the treatment works when four sets of national guidance describe the evidence as inconsistent. And it covers musculoskeletal shockwave only: the same physics is used elsewhere in medicine, under different guidance and by different clinicians, and none of that is within the competence of this guide.
